The attack took place at the Greenwood Park
Mall, about 15 miles south of Indianapolis.

The gunman was shot dead by a Good
Samaritan who witnessed the shooting,
according to Greenwood Police Chief James

The chief said, "Looks like he had a rifle with
several ammunition magazines, entered the
food court and started firing."
Officials were called to Greenwood Park Mall
shortly before 6 p.m., where shots were
reportedly fired into the food court, Assistant
Police Chief Chris Bailey said at a brief news
conference
Authorities are searching the mall for other
victims, but Bailey said he believes the shooting
was confined to the food court.
Officials also said a suspicious backpack was
found in a bathroom near where the shooting
took place. It is under investigation by the
Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service.
In a statement, Greenwood Mayor Mark Myers
said: "This tragedy touches the core of our
community." Myers begged any witnesses to
the shooting to come forward.
