Irvo Otieno Video twitter
The mother of Irvo Otieno, a man who died while in custody at a state hospital, spoke about her son’s “inhumane” death at a news conference on Thursday after viewing surveillance video of the incident. Watch full video below:
Today, the family of Irvo Otieno viewed video of the 28-yo’s death at the hands of 7 Henrico County (VA) sheriff’s deputies. Irvo posed NO threat to officers, nor was he violent — he didn’t deserve to be fatally restrained with the weight of officers on top of him! pic.twitter.com/qRIkWw77Y8

The conference was held on the same day it was announced three employees of the hospital had been arrested in relation to Otieno’s death.
Relatives of Irvo N. Otieno watched a video of his “traumatic” death as a local prosecutor brought second-degree murder charges against three of Central State Hospital’s employees — on top of the seven sheriff’s deputies already charged in his death. https://t.co/u6RXG1ZVwu

Otieno, 28, was being transported from the Henrico County jail to the psychiatric facility by Henrico County Sheriff’s Office deputies on March 6 when, investigators were told, he became combative during the admission process.
Otieno was restrained and died during the intake process, Virginia State Police officers were initially told when they arrived to investigate Otieno’s death.
