Verne Troyer’s death on April 21 has been officially ruled as a suicide by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner. The cause was determined to be related to the consequences of alcohol intoxication.
The autopsy report, released on a Wednesday, reveals that the “Austin Powers” star drank himself to death. Deputy Medical Examiner Dr. Martina Kennedy mentioned that Troyer, aged 49, had a history of depression, chronic alcohol use, and had reportedly expressed suicidal thoughts.
Troyer’s demise occurred less than a week after an undisclosed medical emergency led to his hospitalization and almost exactly a year after his previous rehab stay.
Throughout his life, Verne Troyer had been candid about his struggles with alcohol addiction, a battle documented by VH1’s reality show “The Surreal Life” in 2005. In an Instagram post from April 2017, Troyer shared, “I’ve battled alcohol addiction in the past, and while it’s not always been an easy fight, I’m willing to continue my fight day by day.”
Following his death, the family issued a statement describing him as a resilient fighter in his personal battles, acknowledging his past victories but expressing that this time, the struggle proved too much.
