DC Movie Set Photos Reveal Blue Beetle Costume

Jaime Reyes is joining the DC Extended Universe, and his iconic Blue Beetle outfit has never looked better! Warner Bros. has put a lot of effort into their upcoming Blue Beetle film, and it shows in the first look at the lavish live-action suit.

Jaime Reyes, a teenager from El Paso, TX, meets an alien "scarab" who bonds with him, manifests a suit of high-tech armor, and grants him superpowers. Xolo Mariduea (Cobra Kai) plays him. The sleek, almost Tokusatsu-influenced look of Blue Beetle, created by Keith Giffen, John Rogers, and Cully Hamner during DC's Infinite Crisis event back in 2006, appears like it was made for the screen virtually from the start. Despite starring in a number of DC animated series (including Batman: The Animated Series),

However, it doesn't appear that this will be an issue with the Blue Beetle film. We have our first look at Mariduea in full Blue Beetle attire on the set of the film in Atlanta, GA, thanks to the guys at JustJared, and we're happy to report that he looks absolutely fantastic. This isn't only a faithful recreation of the character from the comics; it's also a stunningly detailed costume. It would have been way too simple to create this outfit digitally using motion capture (thank you, Marvel Studios!) So it's a welcome relief to see this version of Blue Beetle brought to life in a fantastic practical outfit that screams to be transformed into an action figure.

In addition to Raoul Max Trujillo as the nefarious Conrad Carapax, George Lopez as Jaime's uncle Rudy, Harvey Guillén (our beloved Guillermo from What We Do In the Shadows), and Susan Sarandon as Victoria Kord, who is reported to be an opponent in the film, Ted Kord, the man who wore the non-superpowered mantle of Blue Beetle before Jaime, has the same last name as Jaime, although it's uncertain if Ted will participate in this film at this time. From a story by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, Angel Manuel Soto (Charm City Kings) directs.

Blue Beetle, despite being planned as an HBO Max film, will be released in theaters on August 18, 2023. The complete list of forthcoming events may be seen here.
